Technology
External Reality is planning to predominantly use GPON over blown fibre to provide this service, though as coverage increases some areas may include wireless coverage using Terragraph 60GHz wireless systems.
All connections provided in this area will be gigabit capable – that is, capable of offering connections of at least 1000Mbps.
Packages
Services will start from £25 per month excluding VAT (£30 per month including VAT) for 35Mbps guaranteed download and upload speed. Pricing for out highest speed gigabit services are available on request and subject to overall project demand.
All of our packages include an Unlimited Data allowance.
All packages are available with support from the Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme where customer is eligible under Beneficiary Terms and Conditions. Eligible connections will be funded for up to £5000 inc VAT for residential installations or £5000 exc VAT for SME installations. Funding is not available for any additional equipment, works or subscription charges.

FAQ
What is included?
Included with standard installations is a preconfigured Zyxel dual band 802.11ac wireless router.
We can provide other hardware options, including wireless extenders, but these are not included in standard installation charges and can not be funded through the Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme.
How does this get installed?
This project is planned to be a full Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) installation. A small fibre tube, 7mm in diameter, will be installed to each property. This tubing will be fed into the building through a hole drilled in the wall or door\window frame and once in place a fibre optic cable will be ‘blown’ through the tubing using a compressor and specialist machine.
Am I eligible for the SBVS?
Eligibility for the Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme is fairly straightforward
- All connections must provide at least 30Mbps and at least double existing connection speed, whichever is greater.
- An SME is defined using the standard EU definition available here – in summary this is a business of less than 250 employees with a turnover of less than 50 million Euros or a balance sheet total of less than 43 million Euros
- An SME must not have received more than 200,000 Euros in De minimis state aid in the past three years
Full Terms and Conditions including eligibility criteria are available from the Scottish Governement website under Beneficiary Terms and Conditions
Does this include a telephone service?
Not initially – with the prevalence of mobile phones and the ability to use calling over wi-fi, we have opted not to include telephone services in the initial rollout to reduce cost and complexity. If you wish to have a landline service, you will need to retain a BT line for this. The equipment deployed does support telephone services, so we may provide these in future.
What service levels do you provide?
We aim to resolve any reported faults within five business days. With this being a full fibre network, faults are rare, and by using blown fibre repairs can be put in place quickly and easily – even if the network has been damaged.
Standard broadband lines from other providers have a ten business day fault repair SLA.
